Engaging this healing journey inclues learning new self management and interperonsal skills, as well as gaining insight into the unconscious infuences on thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
All human beings are wired to organize experiences into a life-script that acts as guide for making decisions.
Your experiences make up each page of your life-script.
Your life-script is loaded with place and things, characters and ideas that help you remember past lessons, and apply those lessons to future events.
Many, many decisions we make happen outside of our immediate awareness.
-
Your life-script MOSTLY works unconsciously.
Unconscious influences on our thoughts, feelings and behaviors include thoughts, feelings, behaviors, memories, defense mechanisms, complexes, biases, and heuristic (gut) reactions.
Sometimes our imagination, dreams and fantasies reveal bits of our life-script that provides clues to why we act the way we do.
This web-resource presents a Journey Journal. Each chapter helps you along a path towards finding meaning in your life.
The Journey Journal follows an outline often referred to as "The Hero's Journey."
The quest to find meaning takes courage. According to Mythologist, Joseph Campbell, "The Cave You Dear to Enter Holds the Treasure You Seek." Each chapter of the Journey Journal will help you develop skills and discover hidden influences on your thoughts feelings and behaviors.
Your inner life-script has all the elements of a great legend... The Hero (that's you), allies, enemies, rugged terrain, tough lessons and... if you stick with it... miraculous rewards.

Who do you look up to? Someone from litterature, the movies or real-life? What is it about that person that makes your relationship work? What qualities do they posess that attracts you? (If they had a magical power that could help you on your journey, what wuld it be? Hey, it's YOUR story. Be imaginative!)
- Consider the power of symbols, metaphors & synchronicity. Study dreams stories, film, songs, and myths.
Embarking on the journey can be scary. Having 2nd thoughts is okay.... but the nagging call won't leave you alone right? It may even show up in your dreams. You've identified a guide and qualities you respect. In this chapter, you build the skills you will need to face down your fears and to perservere ... to work past fears and complete the Journey!
- Learn about unconscious influences and practice ways to ensure your own psychological safety.
- Identify and build on your strengths, enjoy the power of role-playing to prepare for that which will try to deter you from your goals.
This is an important stage of your journey. You have allies as a guide and the skills to manage the fears that have prevented you from being your true self. The cave is dark and forboding. You light a torch ... there you see it... your Shadow. But wait. It doesn't look like you at all. It is distorted and with the flickering of the flame from the musty draft of old memeories, the shadow moves and contorts. Then, you see it... a monster? A dragon?
- Use these tools to learn more about your Shadow.
You've now learned so much about how your uncoonscious influences thoughts, feelings and behaviors. And you still have more to learn. "Do I fight the dragon - deny my Shadow altogether OR do I ride the dragon - find balqnce between my light and dark attributes?"
- Identify supports for sharing your authentic self. Practice being authentic.
- Be aware of your Shadow. Counterbalance it with random acts of kindness.
- Harness and practice the wisdom of your journey thus far in service of the original Call to Action.
Your time is NOW. The PRESENT is A GIFT. You no longer HOPE everything will be okay, you are confident that whatever comes your way, you can handle it.
- You have made great strides in defining your Self-concept ... your THEORY OF YOU.... Building Self-Esteem and Demonstrating Self-Efficacy.
- Meaning in life will now come from helping others along in their Journey... being a mentor, a guide, an authentic caring other.
Your healing journey takes courage... it will have you engaging therapeutic activities, including self-assessment tools and journaling with the goal of discovering self-defeating, unconscious infuences and reforming those reflexive responses so you may bring your behaviors into congruence with your values and preferred Self. We shall base our approach to healing on the epic model often referred to as ... The Hero's Journey.
