Week 8: Transformation and Growth
Focus: Recognizing personal transformation and growth as a result of facing challenges.
- CBT Focus: Reflecting on how challenges have reshaped thought patterns and behaviors. Emphasizing cognitive restructuring (changing negative thought patterns into positive ones).
- Assessment Tool: Resilience Scale – measuring how much resilience has grown over time through overcoming challenges.
- Expressive Arts Activity:
- Children: Create a “Before and After” drawing or collage, depicting how they were before facing a challenge and how they’ve transformed after facing it.
- Adults: Create a visual timeline or journal entry reflecting on a personal transformation and the steps taken to achieve growth.
- Experiential Family Therapy Activity: Families discuss a challenge they've faced together and reflect on how the family has grown as a unit. Each family member shares what they've learned and how they've changed.
- Executive Functioning Homework Assignment:
- Children: Work with their parent to identify one new skill they have developed and practice using that skill throughout the week (e.g., emotional regulation, patience, problem-solving).
- Adults: Reflect on the skills they've developed through recent challenges and identify how these new strengths can be applied to current or future challenges.
